Computer Science and Engineering

B. Tech Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) is one of the most sought after courses in engineering in the present day. With a blend of hardware and software technologies, CSE provides students with the right expertise needed to flourish in the world of computer technology today.

The department of CSE was established in 2001 with an intake of 60, increased to 120 in 2002, 180 in 2004, 240 in 2012. Besides, an additional 20% seats are under lateral entry scheme. The department is also offering M.Tech program from the year 2008 with an intake of 18.

The department is supported by highly qualified and professionally experienced faculty members, including two Ph.D holders. Faculty research interest spans a wide range: Networks, Software Engineering, Cryptography, Algorithms, Internet of Things. The department has adequate number of high-end systems in all the labs. The department has well equipped computer labs and highly proficient academicians. All the labs are installed with latest versions of operating systems, programming tools and high end softwares. The department conducts various industry oriented training programs like Campus Connect for Infosys, Tivoli, RAD&DB2 for IBM, Adobe Flex, E-Swecha programme for the benefit of the students. All the computer labs are integrated with LAN network with centrally managed servers. Four HP & IBM high-end servers are deployed to meet the needs of all the computer labs. The labs are well supported by high end back up facility. Uninterrupted high speed internet facility is also available in the collage for the use of all faculties and the students. Teaching aids such as LCD Projector, OHP, CD demo, equipment demonstrations, Models, Charts etc., are regularly used to enhance better understanding. Around 18 students of each class are allocated to a teacher who is in close contact with every student with regard to academic and personal matters.

The department has its own library in addition to the central library with 1000 titles, Conference Proceedings and IEEE Transactions/Journals. Computer Engineers Technical Association (CETA) is a students’ body. It organizes Seminars, Quiz Programmes, Industrial Visits, Paper Contests, Group Discussions, Guest Lectures, Career Guidance, Games etc. under its auspices. Students’ CSI Chapter conducts various events round the year. The students are encouraged to participate in seminars conducted in other engineering colleges. Around 100 alumni of the Department are pursuing their higher education in India and abroad. The department interacts with them and gets feedback with regard to academics, placements etc. Their suggestions are taken into consideration in various developmental activities.

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering at St. Martin's Engineering College provides students with a healthy combination of research and practice. In an endeavour to nurture students to cope with the ever changing environment in technology, the department of CSE aims to give a strong foundation in computer science and problem-solving techniques. The programs have been planned in a manner to offer a blend of computers, communication technologies and other information retrieving/processing tools so as to provide the student with the requisite know-how for solving real life problems thereby enabling them to enter the world of opportunities with flying colors and capitalize the huge IT market.A good number of students of 2014 - 2015 batch were selected in the campus interviews by leading companies like Infosys Technologies Limited, Kony Labs, LG Software, Synopsis, Microsoft etc.
