Department of Mechanical Engineering

The Department of Mechanical Engineering has been established in the year 2009, with a sanctioned strength of 60 students for the UG Program. The intake increased to 120 in the year 2012 and further increased to 180 in the year 2013 and remains the same as on date. The first batch passed out with 100 percent pass percentage. The department stared PG program (Machine design) in the year 2014, with a sanctioned strength of 18. Mr.K.Rajasekhar Reddy is the Dean for EDC. The department is headed by Mr.D.V.Srikanth.  Presently the faculty strength of the Department is 36. The department has established state of the art facilities / laboratories enabling students learning effectively. The latest softwares like AutoCAD, SOLID WORKS, CATIA, PRO-E, UG and ANSYS are available to train the students and make them industry friendly.

Other than academics the students are exposed to advanced topics in mechanical engineering through guest lectures by eminent personalities periodically Industry visits are also organized. A technical meet is also organized every year to encourage the students to present their technical capability in the form of technical presentation to kindle their interest in research activities.

The department is catering to the needs of the industry by training students to make valuable contribution. The Department is endeavoring to produce highly trained and capable engineers, who can take up the challenges of the real world. The Department focuses on uncompromising academic standards in imparting both theoretical and practical instructions with a view to prepare professional engineers.

The CAD/CAM Laboratory has been set up. The CAD/CAM laboratory is catering the needs of students in such a way that they will not only have exposure to the areas of Computer Aided Analysis, CAM etc, but also can do some projects.

The faculty strives to foster and encourage a teaching methodology that is both practical and theoretical in approach tuning to the requirements of the latest developments in research and industry in the field of mechanical Engineering.

The department has well established laboratories with sophisticated equipment supplementing the academic needs of the students. The lab facilities are being upgraded from time to time, to provide adequate opportunities for the students to learn and innovate. The department is fully equipped with all the labs required for the curriculum and research. Some of the laboratories are:

  • CAD/CAM Lab
  • CNC Lab
  • Metallurgy and Mechanics of Solids Lab
  • Production Technology Lab
  • Thermal Engineering Lab
  • Machine Tools & Metrology Lab
  • Fluid & Hydraulic Machine Lab
  • Production Drawing Practice and Instrumentation Lab
  • Engineering Workshop
  • Heat Transfer Lab
  • Advanced Communication Skills Lab

The department is actively engaged in research. The department has been organizing short term training programs, seminars, workshops, guest lectures by experts, technical & non-technical student fests regularly. The department is working for the improvement of Industry – Institute Interaction in terms of academics & research and also for the development of infrastructure to match the needs of the industry. The department is striving hard to attain & sustain as a centre of excellence in Electrical engineering education & research with a holistic approach.

The students are encouraged to present papers and to participate in seminars conducted in other engineering colleges/ universities. A variety of academic activities are conducted under the auspices of student’s professional chapters. We subscribe to many SAE & MESA journals apart from subscribing to on-line digital access of all journals.

Educational tours and industrial visits are periodically organized to enhance the practical knowledge of the students and keep them updated with the latest technological applications in various industries to enhance their employability skills.

We have the Alumni Chapter and regular  interactions take place with them is in existence and regularly interacting with them to get feedback with regard to academic, placements etc. Their suggestions are taken into consideration in various developmental activities of the department. Many of our alumni are pursuing their higher studies in IITs and reputed universities, abroad. A large number of students are placed in reputed Companies every year.

M. Tech (Machine Design):

The department offers a two year full time M.Tech.  program in Machine Design with an intake of 18, duly approved by AICTE, New Delhi, from the academic year 2014-2015.

The course provides a sound foundation to pursue a career in Design of a various machine components, modeling analysis, design and integration of various interdispline, through a diverse range of theoretical skills and practical experience, presented in the context of real applications and design experience. This program enriches the students in different spheres of Mechanical engineering. Some of the laboratories associated with this program are:

Kinematics and Dynamics Lab

Computer aided testing & analysis

This course deals with the state of the art techniques in system-level modeling analysis, design and integration of machine components. The course also covers advanced topics in Mechanical Vibration, Optimization technique, advanced kinematic of machinery, Experimental Stress analysis, Robotics and Automation are very much needed for today's Advanced engineering Era. Projects of practical relevance are taken up by every student during the third and fourth semesters.

Mechanical Engineering is one of the major activities in the engineering profession and its principles are involved in the design, study, development and construction of nearly all of the physical devices and systems. Continued research and development have led to better machines and processes helping the mankind.
