Department of Civil Engineering


Civil Engineering is one of the major disciplines in the engineering profession and its principles are involved in the design, study, development and construction of nearly all of the physical devices and systems. Continued research and development have led to better machines and processes helping the mankind.

The Department of Civil Engineering has been established in the year 2009, with a sanctioned strength of 60 students for the UG Program. The intake increased to 120 in the year 2012 and further increased to 180 in the year 2013-2014. The first batch passed out with high pass percentage. The department stared PG program (Structural Engineering) in the year 2014, with a sanctioned strength of 18. The teaching faculty strength of the Department is 27. The department has established state of the art facilities / laboratories enabling students learn effectively. Software like AUTO CAD and STADD PRO are available to train the students and make them industry eligible.

Other than academics, the students are exposed to advanced topics in civil engineering through guest lectures by eminent personalities periodically. A technical meet is organized every year to encourage the students enhance their technical capability in the form of technical presentations and model making events to kindle their interest in research activities.

The department caters to the needs of the industry by training students to make valuable contribution. The department endeavors to produce highly trained and capable engineers to take up the challenges of the real world. The Department focuses on uncompromising academic standards in imparting both theoretical and practical instructions with a view to prepare professional engineers.

The department has well established laboratories supplementing the academic needs of the students. The lab facilities are being upgraded from time to time to provide adequate opportunities for the students to learn and innovate. The department is fully equipped with all the laboratories required for the curriculum and research such as:

The department has been organizing short term training programs, seminars, workshops, guest lectures by experts, technical & non-technical student fests regularly. The department is working for the improvement of Industry – Institute Interaction in terms of academics & research and also for the development of infrastructure to match the needs of the industry.

The students are encouraged to present technical papers and to participate in seminars conducted in other engineering colleges/ universities. A variety of academic activities are conducted under the auspices of student’s professional chapters. The department subscribes to many journals apart from on-line digital access to all journals.

Educational tours and industrial visits are periodically organized to enhance the practical knowledge of the students and keep them updated with the latest technological applications in various industries to enhance their employability skills.

We have the Alumni Chapter and regular interactions with ex-students are held. Their suggestions are taken into consideration in various developmental activities of the department. Many of our alumni are pursuing their higher studies in IITs and reputed universities in India and abroad. A large number of them are placed in reputed Companies.

M. Tech (Structural Engineering):

The department offers a two year full time M.Tech. program in Structural Engineering with an intake of 18, duly approved by AICTE, New Delhi, from the academic year 2014-2015.

The course provides a sound foundation to pursue a career in design of various civil structural engineering, design analysis and structural members, through a diverse range of theoretical skills and practical experience, presented in the context of real applications and design experience. This program enriches the students in different spheres of civil engineering.

This course deals with the state of the art techniques in structural analysis. The course also covers advanced topics structural design, FEM, advanced concrete technology and Earth quake design very much needed for today's advanced engineering era. Projects of practical relevance are taken up by every student during the third and fourth semesters.
